It’s official! I’m a certified drone pilot.

Hello everybody!

Ok, so it’s not actually official. I took and passed the remote pilot knowledge test and have submitted the test results. Said I’d should hear back from the FAA in 7 days. Pretty stoked.

Speaking of becoming a licensed drone pilot, I bought a drone! It’s the DJI Mini II. First drone I’ve ever owned. Kinda glad I waited to get into it honestly because this thing is super easy to fly. And super easy to get overconfident… Which is why I would suggest buying the extra parts when you buy a drone. I haven’t lost any important parts of the drone yet but I can see replacing a propeller or two soon.

The camera on it is pretty good. 12 MP but not bad. My 80D only has low 20s. But the gimbal on the other hand is simply fantastic! Especially in Cine mode, that camera stays right where it’s supposed to be. In Sport mode is gets a bit wonky but still decent.

Working on some videos with it right now. I’ll post them when I get some updates. The video is pretty good. Says it’s 4k but it doesn’t look that much better or worse than anything else digital. The picture quality is damn good too. Weird how it does the file system for them though. It automatically saves all the videos and the processed photos to my phone but on the memory card is keeps them as raw files that haven’t been stacked as a panorama. I suppose it’s so you can process them yourself.

Anyway, been a pretty good week. Got lots of photos with the 80D and a lot with the drone. So many in fact I’m going to break down and get a new external HDD to store em. Yeah I know I should delete most of it but it’s like throwing away old clothes. You just know you’ll wear them again. Some day…
